Room Parent Information

Official DCE PTO Room Parents were notified of selection on Friday, September 15, 2023. A few teachers do still need a room parent and you can complete that application HERE. Please speak with your teacher before completing the application.
​
Room Parent selection is ultimately up to the classroom teacher. We want to thank you for being available to your teacher & agreeing to be a room parent! The room parent is one of the key people in making the school year a great one for our children, our parents and our teachers.
​
The primary role of a room parent is to provide support to the teacher and communicating with parents regarding class and school wide events.
Talk with your teacher at the beginning of the year and discuss how he/she would like you to work with the parent volunteers and other classroom help.
As a room parent, you have access to an online tool, SignUpGenius (SUG), for creating and managing sign up sheets. This should help make organizing events and finding volunteers much easier for you.

Please remember to CC (carbon copy) explorers@dcepto.org and your teacher on all room communication and sign up forms.

The room parent is responsible for the following :

Facilitating Classroom Events

Check with your teacher and see when he/she is having an event and if he/she has any specific plans. You can use signupgenius.com to send out a request for supplies and volunteers.

Assisting with the Class at Fun Run ​

How much assistance is needed will be determined by each individual teacher, but you may be asked to help create a class flag used on run day or bring an after run treat.

Communicate with Class Parents about events​

You will be asked to pass on messages from the PTO about upcoming events including, but not limited to: Book Fair, Fun Run, Holiday Shop, Space Night/Space Jam, and more. You will also be asked to help sign up volunteers for these events. ​

Maintain a Class Directory

Link have been mailed out by each teacher. Parents must opt into this directory in order for the Room Parent to contact them. ​

Individual Student Gifts
-
Help organize and remind parents about individual student gifts for teacher birthday, the holidays in December, and teacher appreciation in May.

Remind parents to also show appreciation for our Amazing Resource Teachers. A thank you note, picture drawn by your child, gift card, thoughtful present, or even a coffee would always be appreciated!

Funds may not be collected by parents but the DCE PTO is happy to help with Fund Collections. Complete this Form to request a collection page.

Photograph Memories

Take photos at class events to send to our yearbook coordinator.

Fifth Grade Parents will also need to send photos to the Fifth Grade Committee.

DON'T FORGET: You must be an approved volunteer to come into the school to help your class.
